The AF4 project was created with the idea of contributing to the development of digital technologies and enablers that could bring Spanish industry closer to the paradigm of Industry 4.0.
The goal of the project is to develop a cyber-physical system based on integration of multi-device, augmented reality technology and on the control, monitoring and operation of process industries.
The AF4 system focuses on support for real-time decision-making in this type of industries.
Recovery and growth in Spain’s industrial sector in the immediate future involves implementation of automation technologies and flexible production techniques in industry.
Within the hierarchical pyramid of automation, AF4 is positioned as a new level in the lowest communication layers were the physical link of data and network layers takes place, with the goal of offering a cyber-physical system that enables supervision and monitoring of plants in real time from any site.
The main innovation offered by the AF4 platform is its capacity for integrating data from heterogeneous information sources, for the homogenization and standardization of these data, prior to their processing with Big Data technologies for their consumption by mobile devices in an industrial environment. This means that, using artificial vision and augmented reality, these data can be viewed superimposed on the image of the surroundings, in real time and depending on the context.
For the client, implementation of the AF4 system entails incorporating a greater flexibility into production processes; it is a matter of creating added value by exploiting the data that could be available to the company.
The AF4 project is subsidized by CDTI through the FEDER INNTERCONECTA program (Project ITC-20151231), supported by the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness, and it receives co-financing from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). The companies Magtel Operaciones and ICube Ingeniería also take part in the project as partners.
