Additive manufacturing, also known as 3D printing, is defined as one-piece, layer-by-layer construction from a 3D model. These technologies can transform the digital design data into a physical product in a matter of hours, so that unique, functional, complex and/or customised parts can be created.
The additive manufacturing node specialized in advanced manufacturing, an area in which Asturias has particular capabilities from technology centres (IDONIAL), the University of Oviedo and facilities and experts of private companies, and in which parts, components or customized prostheses for sectors such as metal, aerospace or bio-health are already being produced.
