Industry 4.0 is the process of digitalization of industry, in which digital technologies such as the Internet of things, cloud computing, big data analysis, augmented reality, 3D printing or collaborative robotics will change the way industry operates. We can compare this process with the digitalization of society, where smart phones and the social networks have fostered a change in the dynamics of how things operate.

The digitalization of industry is a two-way process. In one direction, it allows us to obtain information from the production processes or from products already manufactured using sensors, the Internet of things and data analysis, thus increasing productivity and improving products.

And in the other direction, products can be obtained through 3D printing, or information or learning services can be created using augmented reality processes or by improving decision-making thanks to simulation of scenarios.

AsDIH is the element of coordination of the infrastructures, resources and services available in the region to accelerate the process of digitisation of the Asturian industry, acting, in addition, as a space in which companies can experiment with technology before investing in it and participate in complementary demonstration activities and alternative services that contribute to the success of their digitalisation process.

AsDIH is part of the Regional Strategy for Smart Specialisation and is one of the assets that facilitates the development of some of its scientific and technological priorities. These technologies will allow Asturian companies to become more competitive, and access new markets and global value chains.
